Who We Are

We are a 163 member multi-cultural congregation which encourages full participation and leadership from men, women, and youth with intentional racial inclusion.  In 1989 First Christian Church of Harvey and United Christian Church of Country Club Hills merged to become a truly “United” church.  The church, congregationally governed, has a call process for clergy leadership, practices baptism by immersion for new converts, and are called people of “The Table” because of our weekly observance of communion which is open to all believers.  Our Motto is “Agreed to differ, Resolved to love, United to serve.”

We are not threatened by questions of Biblical interpretation and other faith issues, and we welcome and encourage all who seek to define and deepen their relationship with God.  Bible study, Sunday morning Christian Education classes for all ages, and Disciples Women groups provide small group settings for Christian growth and fellowship.

We value our relationships with the larger church -- regional, national, and international -- the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), but as a congregation have responsibility for determining our mission, our policies, and prayerfully deciding the direction in which we believe God is leading us.

What makes our congregation special?  We regularly refer to ourselves as a "Unique Family of Faith."  We are an intentionally multi-racial congregation, and within our denomination, we are one of only seven churches with an African-American minister serving a multi-racial congregation.  We experience and treasure a "sweet, sweet spirit" of Christian hospitality within our fellowship.  We strive to be a genuine, loving, caring congregation by calling on those who are sick or otherwise unable to attend services, by respecting individual differences in the faith journeys of our members, and welcoming all who seek to define and deepen their relationship with God.

We are proud of our church and its participants, and we invite you to share in joyful worship of God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ and fellowship with those who have decided to serve God in this place.
